Meet Martina
Martina Egan-Moog is a highly experienced and internationally recognised pain physiotherapist known for her expertise in persistent pain management, education, and integrative movement-based approaches. Originally from Germany, Martina has worked across Europe and Australia, bringing over 20+ years of clinical and teaching experience to her work with people experiencing complex pain conditions.
Martina began her physiotherapy career after completing her physiotherapy diploma in 1990 at the University Clinic in Essen, Germany. Early clinical work in musculoskeletal and sports injury care led her to pursue advanced training in neurodynamic principles and manipulative therapy. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Manipulative Therapy (1996) and a Master of Science degree (1999) from Curtin University in Perth, with her research focused on sensory and psychological profiling in late whiplash patients.
Her clinical focus shifted towards persistent and complex pain during her time working in a cognitive-behavioural pain management program at the Pain Management and Research Centre at the University of Sydney. Since then, she has specialised in blending contemporary pain science with psychological, physiological, and movement-based interventions, teaching clinicians and students across Australia, Europe, and beyond.
Martina holds the title of APA-Titled Pain Physiotherapist, awarded by the Australian Physiotherapy Association in 2019, recognising her advanced expertise in pain management. She maintains annual teaching commitments with La Trobe University, the Neuro-Orthopaedic Institute (NOI) in Adelaide, the German Pain Society, and international partners, where she instructs courses such as Explain Pain and Graded Motor Imagery.
In addition to her clinical and educational roles, Martina is a certified yoga teacher (2019) and embodiment coach (2023), integrating yoga therapy, cold-water therapy, and embodied movement principles into her physiotherapy practice to support holistic pain recovery. She also founded a small integrative allied health clinic in Port Melbourne, where she applies psychologically informed and trauma-aware approaches to rehabilitation.
Martina is a committed researcher and author with numerous publications and translations in scientific journals and textbooks; she has contributed to curriculum development for specialised pain physiotherapy training internationally. She is a member of professional organisations including the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), the Australian Pain Society, the German Pain Society, and the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
Outside of work, Martina is a mother of three, dog owner, and an enthusiastic swimmer with the Port Melbourne Icebergs, reflecting her lifelong passion for movement and wellbeing.
